In Christ, Dr. Lewis Fisher, Jr.
I say again, God first loved us! I know we quote this all the time, so it is not strange to our ears, but I wonder how many of us have caught a revelation of it. You see my dear friends, revelation cannot be taught, but it must be caught by the spirit. Does it really resonate within our hearts? We were not looking for Him, nor did we want Him. I am grateful that His love compelled Him to act nonetheless. “Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready.” Romans 5:6 (The Message Bible Translation)

Although I saw no need for Him, He was not at all dissuaded in His pursuit. He had a purpose for me, and it was clear He wanted me to know what it was. Like Jonah of old, God intended that he go to the wicked city Nineveh, and cry unto it. Well, the scriptures records that Jonah had no desire to follow the orders given him. Little did he know that God would not change His mind about him, so he was going to Nineveh, and he would carry God’s message to them. As we all know, Jonah went to Nineveh!

Jesus came on the scene, issuing orders for us to alter our course. He then provided the means to do so, by the offering of himself, and with his blood, He marked and sealed the permanent course of life for us. Without Jesus, we operate outside the safety of the channel, and our lives are run hard aground as a result, and even worse, we put the lives of those within and without our circle at risk.
Everything we do outside the will of God puts others at risk! Thank God that Jesus came and issued those new orders, to put us back on course, and in the realm of safety. We needed a savior that could live this holy life through us. We were without hope in this world! When hardly anyone else believed in me, she heralded a recurring theme off her lips, saying, “God has anointed you; people need to hear what God has to say through you.” During many days nights of conflict, her words echoed in my hearing and encouraged me to keep on the path God had chosen for me. God used her to encourage me to keep pursuing kingdom ministry and the completion of this work."
