I Know Him - Part V

Scriptures: Judges 7:7-15
7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.
12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
14 And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

Apostle Lewis Fisher, Jr continued the series, “I Know Him Part V.”  Here we learned by God’s shining light Gideon defeated the Midianities.  Apostle focused on being humbled before God. We are to focus on God’s strength, and celebrate his accomplishments in our lives for His glory.  This is what the Israelite’s learned in Judges 7. This lesson is difficult, but we must remain humble and endure because we gain strength, and are encouraged by what God says and does.  God stripped the army to only 300 men. But, God had promised He would deliver the Midianities into Gideon’s hands. We see this in our own lives: Less is more! The thought of always competing for things such as, bigger homes, more money, and more stuff is the rat-race of the world and God wants us to re-frame our priorities, shifting to where we pour ourselves out to Him.  Jesus was supportive of the weak, the forgotten, the littlest, the least, the loneliest and the lost. We are the guiding light that help point a hurting and sinful world to God. We need to make Him shine. We reflect God’s light and His strength.

Genesis 26:13-16
13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
15 For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
Matthew 5:6 6 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Apostle Lewis Fisher, Jr spoke from the message “I Know Him Part lV.  The life of Abraham and the life of Isaac are very similar.  There was famine in the land and they both went to foreign countries.  Isaac wanted to go to Egypt because Abraham lived there but God denied him permission to do so.  Isaac revived the same wells of his father Abraham, and they were called by the same names.  Digging the wells means claiming the ownership of the land.  He had to face many problems,  Yet, he was victorious because God was with him. Even through the famine, Isaac kept prospering because of the blessings of God.  God blessed Isaac when he sowed the seeds.  He grew richer as well as became  great.  He had flocks, herds, many men and maidservants.  His wealth and greatness were a result of his honesty and the promise of the blessings.

He also became the object of hostility and faced the wrath of the local leader.  The Philistines destroyed the wells which Isaac inherited from his father Abraham. He was robbed, threatened and sent out by Abimelech, king of the Philistines, because he became a stronger man, and they envied him.  Isaac understood and experienced God as protector and provider.  He put all his trust in God.  If God says you are blessed, you are blessed.  No matter what trials and tribulations are coming your way, he still blesses you through it all.  God will connect to you and prosper you as he promised Abraham.  God is doing a work in those whose heart is perfect towards him and he will draw close to you.  Let your light  shine so that men will see your good works and glorify God.

Knowing God - Part 2 and 3

12/3/2018

Apostle Fisher continued the series I KNOW HIM by reading the foundational scripture:

Genesis 12:1-4, emphasis on verse 2.
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

The word "blessed" was defined as God saying something good about us. It doesn’t matter who might speak evil of us, God has said something good about us. What he says trumps the evil others might say.

Picture
Apostle Fisher emphasized, that according to Galatians 3:9,29, the blessing God is speaking about is not something to be earned, it is rather inherited.

9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
We were reminded that the blessing is active, and has been from the moment we accepted Jesus Christ, but it will not manifest until we act on that proclamation by God’s word. Let us act on the word today.

Remember, change does not happen when you finish, it happens when you start.

In Christ,
LF
