Scripture: Romans 13: 1-7, Matthews 5: 13-16
Apostle Lewis Fisher Jr. spoke on the responsibility of the Church, according to the Word of the Lord as the “The Conscience of a Nation”.
God has shown the Church the role that our nation is supposed to conduct according to the Holy Bible. Apostle Fisher told us; when we see what we may perceive as negative or unGodly political practices, then we as the Church have the Word to guide us in the right way. We are to “Look to the Word of the Lord”.
When we, members of the Church, complain and blame the political offices for actions and laws contrary to the Word of God, it is we the Church, with a responsibility to be a voice of conscience for those who hold offices, starting in our communities on the local level, and going all the way to the Office of the President of the United States.

ATo help guide us, the Apostle took us into a reading from Romans 13:1-7. This scripture tells us we must understand the role of government, and we must trust in God’s role as the ruler of our nation. We must understand, according to the scriptures, the role of the Church and the government structure has been ordained by God himself. We must believe God never ordains evil. We must strive to be “The Conscience of the Nation” and share the Word, for there is no authority except from God; and those that exist do so by God’s appointment.
The role of the government is to serve the common good by protecting justice and peace, and rewarding good behavior and restraining bad behavior. When the true role of the government is not adhered to because of political leadership, then It is the Church who must stand up and become the conscious for the offices of the State that God has ordained.
The Apostle reminded us of a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “The Church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the State, but rather the conscience of the State. It must be the guide and the critic of the State, and never its tool. If the Church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority.”
Apostle Fisher asked us to be holy and real for God. If you’d like to receive a FREE CD for additional spiritual guidance please follow this link to make your request.
